School proprietor, boda boda rider perish in Masaka road accident

The proprietor of Nile High School in Mukono District, Yesse Mubangizi and a boda boda rider only identified as Samuel Lukyamuzi have been confirmed dead following Masaka-Kampala road crash which left three other travelers seriously hurt.

Mr Mubanginzi was in motor vehicle reg no UAV 310Y (Prado) that was being driven by a one Tumusiime William heading to Kampala from Masaka.


Police said the accident took place at around 7 am in the morning and attributed its cause to a boda boda rider who carelessly turned off from the road.

According to Faridah Nampiima, the traffic police spokesperson, the accident was caused by Lukyamuzi Samuel 42,who was moving in front of the prado but turned from left to right without indicating. “In the process, the Prado driver tried to dodge the rider and ended up losing control of his vehicle, knocked the boda boda rider and killed him on spot. A one Yesse Mubangizi Kamanyire, an occupant of the vehicle died moments after reaching Nkozi Hospital,” Nampiima said.

The police said three other people who were traveling in the Prado including Kasagwa Ephraim a 72 year old, sustained serious injuries and he’s admitted at Nkozi hospital while Mugabi Philimon sustained minor injuries.

For over ten years now, data collected by police indicates that careless driving and reckless driving remain the top two leading causes of all road crashes in the country.
The two causes contributed to seven out of every 10 road crashes registered by the Uganda Police Force.
