Wakiso Giants Monday announced they had appointed John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda as their new Head Coach on a two year contract from next season until June 2024, with an option to extend for a further year.

During Ayala’s unveiling,Sula Kamoga, the club Chief Executive Officer, told reporters that the new man had been carefully assessed and indeed, they believe he has the “necessary tools and skills” that can help them prosper and excel.

“We were impressed with his commitment and vision he has for the club and despite being a young coach, he has garnered enough experience to steer the club to another level in terms of performance,” said Wakiso Giants CEO Kamoga.

Despite being his first role as a full coach, Ayala has quite some experience with the Uganda Premier League. He has previously worked under Nsimbe George, Mike Mutebi and Abdallah Mubiru as an assistant.

For starters, the Purple Sharks are synonymous with hiring and firing of coaches. Or simply, call it over ambitious.
However, Ayala is aware of the challenge ahead and said he’s ready for whatever comes his way.
“It’s a great honour and privilege to be appointed coach of this highly ambitious club and am ready for the huge challenge,” he said.

Ayala is also of the opinion that his new pay masters and himself do share a lot in common in as far as vision and philosophy of football are concerned.
“In our conversation, I found that we share similar vision and the philosophy of the club especially from last season is one that I believe in as a coach and promise to work hard to develop a team that will be successful,” Ayala noted.

The man whose roles as assistant have been at KCCA, Vipers and Police, steps in the shoes of Alex Gitta who was unceremoniously let go at the end of the season.

Gitta who was employed on an interim basis, replaced Douglas Bamweyana who left the job just three games into the campaign.

Last season,Wakiso Giants finished 7th out of 16 teams with 39 points.
