Policeman found dead at Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre, Entebbe.

Police are investigating a possible case of suicide after one of their own was found dead on Sunday.

Police constable Sadik Kawu’s body was discovered along the Lake Victoria shorelines at Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre, Entebbe.

This website has learnt that the deceased had been deployed for night duty on Saturday at UWEC but shockingly, his lifeless body was found by another police constable attached to the Counter-Terrorism Unit on May 22, 2022.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan police Scene of crime officers visited the scene and took Kawu’s body to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem.

“He was found dead on the 22nd at about 6am . The colleague alleges he had gun shots at about 2am on the lake side . He never minded and thought Marine colleagues had shot some one,” Mr. Owoyesigyire revealed.

He added that the police had “arrested and disarmed all UWA officers and Kawu’s colleagues and submitted their guns for forensic analysis.” Owoyesigyire confirmed that even Kawu’s gun had been taken to check whether it was a case of suicide or murder.

Eric Ntalo, the UWEC spokesperson warned the media and the public not to speculate about the “unfortunate incident.”

He said nothing like that had ever happened at the facility that houses over 600 birds and different animals including giraffes, zebras, tigers, and elephants. Mr. Ntalo noted that as an organization, the safety of animals, visitors, and staff is their first priority and was optimistic that police would carry a thorough and expeditious investigation to establish the cause of death.
