Government confirms Oulanyah’s body arrival date

Oulanyah was last week announced dead by President Museveni.

The body of the former speaker of the 11th parliament will arrive in the country on Friday, April 1, 2022, the government has announced.

This was Monday confirmed by the Minister for Presidency Milly Babalanda. She is also the chairperson of the National Organizing Committee that was set up by President Yoweri Museveni to ensure the ex- speaker is accorded the befitting send- off.


Oulanyah was last week announced dead by President Museveni.

He died from the University Of Washington Medical Center in Seattle in the United states.

According to Ms Babalanda,the arrival of Oulanyah’s body will be followed by a week-long series of activities for his burial.
“Fellow Ugandans, I wish to confirm that the body of our beloved Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah will arrive in Uganda this Friday. We shall then have a weeklong series of activities for his burial,” the minister said before she added that a detailed burial program would be released on Tuesday.

According to the Parliamentary Pensions Act, the day Oulanyah will be buried shall be declared as a public holiday.

Currently, national flags continue to be flown at half-mast.

The former speaker’s burial will also be honored with a seventeen gun salute.
