Woman who separated with husband kills her two children, stabs herself in the neck

Police in Mwiyala in the outskirts of Kakamega town, Kenya have in custody a 32-year-old woman after she poisoned the food served to her two children hence leaving them dead

Pherine Maero, a nurse by profession, is said to have killed the two children aged 7 and 9, on Saturday night, March 5, 2022 and later called their father to come and collect their bodies.

According to Charles Akhonya,  a watchman at the apartment where Maero lives, she approached him at the gate at about 3am and asked him to open the gate for the ‘husband’, but on following them to their house, his eyes shockingly landed on the two children lying dead on their bed.

Media reports said, after being rescued from taking her life, the woman who had stabbed herself in the neck,was taken to a hospital in Kakamega and is receiving treatment as police investigate the matter.

Quoting neighbours, reporters said that the woman has always been chaotic since separating with her husband, at one point smashing her husband’s car which was parked at the apartment.

Kakamega Central OCPD Valerian Obore confirmed the incident, saying the suspect, who is in critical condition at the hospital, will be arraigned in court for murder upon recovery.
