At least 16 people were killed and several others wounded after a suicide bomber detonated explosives at a tea shop in Beledweyne city in Somalia’s Hiran region on Saturday.
The casualties were mostly civilians, police spokesman Dini Roble Ahmed told media.
According to reports, the female bomber entered in the restaurant, which is normally frequented by city residents and government soldiers, at lunchtime and later explosives went off.
The Islamist group al-Shabaab using its radio station claimed responsibility for the attack. It said it was targeting government officials and soldiers, DW Africa reports.
