Police in Kampala have in their custody over 90 suspects who were arrested for committing various crimes.
They were netted by joint task teams of the police and UPDF during an intelligent-led operation carried out on Tuesday, February 01, 2022 in areas of Gaza, which is located in Mabito.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Mr Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan police said the village is synonymous with hiding suspected criminals terrorizing Nateete, Busega, and other Kampala areas.
He added that the suspects were being detained at Nateete Police Station.
“Following intense operations on the Northern Bypass with the aim of clamping down on thugs, criminals have shifted to villages near the Northern Bypass,” mr Owoyesigyire said.
According to Owoyesigyire, the suspects have been engaging in crimes like phone theft during rush hours, burglary, and aggravated robbery. Many of their victims have been stabbed and assaulted before being robbed of their property.
Exhibits including knives and suspected stolen phones among others were recovered in the operation.
The suspects will be arraigned in courts of law as soon as investigations are complete, Owoyesigyire said.
