Police in Entebbe have arrested and detained one of their officers ASP Edward Bua in relation to burning his own mother to death.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, Bua was arrested and he will help in the investigations into the cause of the fire that killed Mrs Margaret Nyakuni Onzia on Saturday morning.
“The territorial Police at Entebbe are investigating a murder and arson of Nyakuni Margaret Onzia, 66, the deputy director Uganda Nurses and Midwife Council, Kampala, and a resident of Bugonga in Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso District” Owoyesigyire noted.
Owoyesigyire added, “The incident happened today (Saturday) at her residence in Bugonga. It was reported to police and the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded to the scene and extinguished the fire”.
Owoyesigyire revealed that the suspect is currently detained at Entebbe Police Station as investigations go on to ascertain his motive.
“It is alleged that ASP Bua locked his mother inside the bed room before locking the main house and later setting it a blaze at around 3am this morning. Upon his arrest, a match box was recovered on him” he said.
Before serving as the Deputy Executive Secretary of UNMEB, Mrs. Margaret Nyakuni served as the Principal for Arua and Soroti Schools of Comprehensive Nursing and Midwifery. She was also a tutor in-charge of Domiciliary at Mulago School of Nursing.
Among her peers, Mrs. Margaret Nyakuni has been a kind hearted, dedicated and passionate leader.
