The Uganda Senior Women’s National Football Team, the Crested Cranes has without much toiling received a ticket to the 2022 Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Uganda’s automatic qualification follows the withdrawal of Kenya whom they were supposed to take on in the last qualifying stage next month.
The Crested Cranes who had just entered camp, were slated to host the Harambe Starlets on February 17 before facing off again six days later for the return leg.
“We regret to inform you that we have just received a Kenya FA correspondence informing us of their withdrawal from Women AFCON- Morocco 2022,” a communication from CAF addressed to FUFA confirmed the withdrawal of Kenya from the Qualifiers.
“Consequently, matches 45 and 46 are cancelled as well as the missions of all designated officials.” The statement further reads.
CAF thus confirmed “Uganda is automatically qualified to the next round of the competition.”
Uganda had eliminated Ethiopia at the first round of the 2022 Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
This will be the second appearance for Crested Cranes at Africa Women Cup of Nations with the first coming in 2000.
