Two arrested for stealing number plates in Kajjansi

Two suspects are currently detained at the Kajjansi territorial police station for allegedly stealing motor vehicle number plates.

The two suspects, police said have been stealing the number plates from areas of Lweza B, Kitende, Sekiwunga and Bwebajja all in Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso District.

They have been identified as; Sebigo Samuel, 31, a porter and resident of Kawotto cell in Kitende ward and Maseruka Misach, 27, a casual labourer and resident of Lweza B cell/Kawali.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the suspects were arrested during an Intelligence led operation after several complaints from residents, on the increasing theft of number plates.
“Through further interrogations, we have noted that other members of this group are still at large, so the hunt is still on to have all arrested and brought to book,” Owoyesigyire said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

During the operation, the police were able to recover five number plates which are currently kept at Kajjansi Police station.

“More details will be availed as soon as possible, and the suspects will be arraigned in courts of law as soon as investigations are complete,” Owoyesigyire noted.
