Ugandan novelist Kakwenza set to appear in court over abuse of first family

Police in Uganda say that controversial novelist Rukirabashaija Kakwenza who was arrested on allegations of offensive communication will appear in court on the morning of Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

Famous for his novels “The Greedy Barbarian” and The “Banana Republic”, Kakwenza was arrested last week on Tuesday by armed men who raided his home at Kisaasi, Nakawa Division in Kampala City.

According to Charles Twiine, the CID Spokesperson,Rukirabashaija Kakwenza used his Twitter account to abusively attack the person of the President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and his son, who also doubles as the commander Land forces, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Twine revealed that Kakwenza Rukirabashaija will be charged with offensive communication under the Computer Misuse Act.

This isn’t the first time that Kakwenza has rubbed the wrong way of the regime.
He was arrested and detained in April and September 2020 under almost similar circumstances and he has complained about being tortured by security operatives on both occasions.
