Hassan Alwi will not compete in the ‘Sexy Speed Rally’ which takes place on November 26-27,2021 in Jinja. This according to the driver, will be his first event to miss since 2015 when he started rallying in Uganda.
Although as a driver he was set and ready to compete, Alwi said his team, the
International University of East Africa decided to pull out of the event.
“I really wanted to compete in this Championship but because of this small issues I can’t decide for the team am just part of the team and I will go with what the majority have decided,” he told a press conference held at IUEA on Monday.
Alwi who’s currently second in the National Rally Championship on 280 points behind Duncan Mubiru (350), said this would leave his efforts to chase for the title but he had to take the decision nevertheless.
“I know I will be losing out on my effort on the championship as well as my favorite event which is the Jinja Rally but I will stick to what my team has decided to do. We are not against the organisers or the Federation.”
“Our culture has always been focused on integrity, doing good and standing for what is right. We have come a long way in regards to promoting that and I would say it’s been a good journey but the whole idea of symbolizing women especially half naked women in an event where we are always with our families.”
“I have two daughters who usually accompany me in most rallies this is a bit ackward for them and I wouldn’t want them to be there,” he added.
Alwi joins other Drivers Didas Matsiko and Timothy Gawaya to withdraw from the event.
Clerk of Course Mr Shafiq Matovu Monday released a list of 33 drivers who have confirmed participation.
And by press time, the sealing of turbos and mapping were ongoing at Shell Ntinda, in Kampala.
