Gaddafi Football Club, one of the three new comers to the Uganda Premier League, were on Monday rudely welcomed with a 0-2 defeat by Busoga United.

Elvis Ngonde and Anwar Ntege scored two second half goals in quick succession for the visitors.

The two Jinja based sides had held each other for the first half of the game.

However, Busoga soon broke Gaddafi’s back on 51 minutes when Pilsner Man of the Match, Ntege, teed on Ngonde for the opener.

Two minutes later, Ntege himself made sure his name was on the score sheet. He finished off Shaka Ssozi’s well laid pass to put the game out of reach for the Soldier boys.

The victory means Busoga joined KCCA, Vipers, Arua Hill and Mbarara City as teams to have won on their opening day of the 2021/22 season.

Busoga was however reduced to ten men three minutes from time after one of the goal scorers Ngonde was showed marching orders for by referee George Olemu.

Despite administration and welfare struggles that have characterized the team since last season, the students looked more organized, hungry and indeed, they were deserved winners.

On match day two, Gaddafi travels to the MTN Omondi Stadium to face KCCA on Saturday, 23rd October 2021.

Meanwhile, Busoga United whose would be opponents URA will be away in Egypt for the CAF Confederation Cup, will take a rest. They will only return to action on 27th October 2021 at home (FUFA Technical Center, Njeru) against KCCA.
