Zambia sealed their place in the 2021 COSAFA Women’s Championship semi-finals with a 1-0 win over guest nation Uganda in their final Group C match on Tuesday afternoon.

Skipper Grace Chanda’s finish on 37 minutes from a well-timed Ochumba Oseke Lubanji assist was enough to see-off a determined Uganda who missed out on qualification.

In a game of very few chances in which the Crested Cranes striking force led by Otandeka Laki and Reticia Nabbosa were kept at bay, the Copper Queens continued asking questions and could have doubled the lead had Chanda not blazed her shot over the bar in the 67th minute.

The win maintained the Copper Queens’ perfect run which now stands at three wins out of three matches, nine goals scored and no goals conceded.

Further, the result ensured that the Copper Queens revenged on the 1-0 loss suffered at the hands of the East Africans in the 2018 bronze-medal match.

Zambia will face Tanzania at Nelson Mandela Bay stadium in the semi-finals on Thursday, October 7 in a lunch-time kick-off.

In the other semi-final, Malawi who finished as the best 2nd placed team ahead of Zimbabwe will face hosts South Africa at 15:30hours on the same day.

Malawi lost 2-1 to Banyana Banyana in their opening Group A fixture and will be looking for revenge when the two sides meet.
