Ntungamo District Health Officer (DHO), Dr Richard Bakamuturaki has died after collapsing in a sauna at a Ntungamo Hotel on Sunday evening, the district acting deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Fedelis Kizza has confirmed.
Reports show the incident took place at around 5 pm and the victim was rushed to Amazing Grace clinic, where he breathed his last on arrival.
According to Mr Kiiza Federis, the deceased’s body has been taken to Mbarara regional referral hospital for a postmortem exercise.
It is however suspected that Dr Bakamuturaki could have succumbed to brain haemorrhage which resulted from the falling.
Dr Bakamuturaki has been described as one of the pillars in the health sector who always fought for fellow health worker’s rights.
Former workmates say the sudden death of a man of integrity, transparency, and accountability has left them in shock.
Dr Bakamuturaki has been the Ntungamo District Health Officer since 2021 when left Rakai where he was serving in the same capacity.
He was born in Kagarama Town council, Ntungamo District in Kajara County. He has died at the age of 48.
