Netball: The Rock urged to go for competition but not participation in South Africa

The Uganda National Netball males team, The Rock has been urged to have a mentality of competition rather than mere participation as they head to South Africa for an international men’s netball tournament.

While flagging off the team on September 10, 2021 at Cupper Chimney- Lugogo, Kampala University Vice Chancellor as well as The Rock Patron Prof. Badru Kateregga Kiggundu implored the players to represent the country well.

“We are sending you not to participate but to compete, as Kampala University, we are here to stay as well as to win, so since we are behind you, go and win. But put discipline forward, be disciplined team and represent the nation well,” he said.

The ceremony was held in the presence of National Council of Sports General Secretary, Dr. Patrick Bernard Ogwel.

Prof. Badru Kateregga bought the team, the traveling tickets and he handed them over to the federation president. Hon. Sarah Babirye Kityo UNF has confirmed.

In a previous interview, the team coach Vincent Kiwanuka said he and his boys would be going for nothing but a victory.
“I know this will be our first outing as a team. But for those who have followed me, you know I’m a winner. Therefore, even in South Africa, we want to make a record and win it at our first attempt,” he said.
