Archbishop Lwanga’s burial site changed

The Orthodox church in Uganda has revealed that the fallen Archbishop Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga will be buried at the St. Nicholas Cathedral next to the grave of the Late Metropolitan Theodoros Nankyama but not in Ddegeya as earlier communicated.

“With the blessings of His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Theodoros II, the body of our beloved spiritual father Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga will be laid to rest on Wednesday 15, September 2021 at St. Nicholas Cathedral next to the grave of the Late Metropolitan Theodoros Nankyama,” the church said in a statement released today.

” This clears the earlier communication which had indicated that the burial ground was at Holy Transfiguration Parish , Ddegeya Luweero District,” they further clarified.

Archbishop Jonah Lwanga died Sunday evening at the age of 76 in Athens, Greece where among others, he had gone for expertise medical treatment.

According to Reverend Father John Kibuuka Bbosa, he succumbed to prostate

Father Kibuuka noted that an autopsy of the late Lwanga that was provided to the Church on Monday evening by the hospital where he died in Athens, confirmed the cause of death.

Archbishop Lwanga’s body is expected to arrive in Uganda on Friday morning.
