Lukwago wants owner, engineer of collapsed city building arrested

According to the Lord Mayor, cases of collapsed buildings are rising because of the loopholes in the approval of plans.

The lord Mayor of Kampala Erias Lukwago has asked police to arrest Haruna Kiggundu, the owner of the collapsed building in Kisenyi and all site engineers.

The building that was still under construction, collapsed Sunday afternoon during a heavy down pour and claimed six lives while eight people were rescued alive from the rubble.

During his visit at the site on Monday morning, Lukwago revealed it was the time to prosecute all owners of collapsed buildings in the city and people responsible for their construction including KCCA supervisors to compensate for the lives lost.

He also said he would fight impunities around the processing and approval of city plans.

According to the Lord Mayor, cases of collapsed buildings are rising because of the loopholes in the approval of plans.

Part of the building under construction that remained but the Lord Mayor wants demolished to avoid further loss of life.

In the same vain,Lukwago directed that the remaining structure is completely brought down to avoid another possible disaster and loss of lives.
