Women football: Ayub Khalifa elevated, Mbekeka demoted as Fufa makes changes in coaching staff

Uganda is preparing for a tie against Kenya in the 2022 FIFA U-20 World Cup Qualifiers due this month.


Former Under 17 Women’s National Team coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi has been promoted to the Under 20 team as head coach.

He replaces Oliver Mbekeka who is relegated to the Assistant Coach role.


Mubarak Kiberu who has served at the U17 Boys National Team (The Cubs) as goalkeeping coach has been appointed to serve in the same capacity on the U20 Women National Team.

Stella Nankuba and Cissy Nakiguba will serve as the Team Doctor and Equipment Manager respectively.

The aforementioned technical team will guide the team during the 2022 FIFA U-20 World Cup Qualifiers due this month.

Oliver Mbekeka, who has been the head coach of the Uganda Under 20 Women’s team will now serve as Ayub Khalifa’s assistant. – FUFA.

Uganda will face Kenya with fixtures scheduled for 23rd -25th September 2021 (First leg) and 7th -9th October 2021 (Second Leg).

Consequently, a provisional squad of 30 players has been named and the team will enter residential camp at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Tuesday, 7th September 2021.
