Goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga will not renew his working Contract with Express FC, the club has confirmed.
The Uganda Premier League Champions announced Monday the player had opted to leave the club despite numerous persuasions.
“Express FC inform that, as per Goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga’s wishes and at his request, the club and the player have mutually parted ways after contract renewal negotiations fell through,” Express said in a statement.
Muwanga ‘s heroics between the posts saw him awarded the best goalkeeper of the 2020/21 Upl season as well as winning the league trophy number seven for the Wankulukuku side.
And indeed, the club acknowledge his performance.
“Express FC would like to place on record its thanks to a player who has shown his 100% committment and made his mark during one of the best seasons in our club’s history.”
Muwanga kept thirteen clean sheets, the highest number in the league last season.
According to the club official website, the goalkeeper has spent three seasons with Express FC. Across all competitions, Muwanga has made 54 appearances and prevented his opponents from scoring into his net 24 times.
