Kampala Capital City Football Club’s little hope to win any silverware this season has been erased after they crashed out of the 2021 Uganda Cup on Friday.
KCCA were eliminated by Express FC on away goals rule despite drawing 1-1 at the MTN Omondi stadium. The two sides had settled for a barren stalement in the first leg in Wankulukuku.
The home team went infront courtesy a Saddat Anaku 42 minute goal. However, a penalty converted by Martin Kizza in the 83rd minute of the game levelled matters for the Red Eagles.
Although the tempo of the game was evidently low, and all signs pointing to a KCCA victory, goalkeeper and captain Charles Lukwago had other plans.
With less than ten minutes left on the clock, Lukwago collected the ball in his but for reasons still, at least for now known to him alone, slapped Charles Musiige who consequently went down. The action promoted referee Ali Kaddu to point to the spot.
Kizza stepped up and handed Express the opportunity to complete the set of the last four of the tournament.
Having been eliminated from the cup, interim coach Morley Byekwaso and his boys have practically ended the season empty handed.
KCCA lie a distant fourth with 45 points with just four games remaining on the Uganda Premier League fixture.
On the other hand, Express and coach Wasswa Bbosa still have in sight both the cup and league. They currently lead the table on 58 points above URA who are on 57 and Vipers who are third with two points behind the Wankulukuku side.
The other three teams in the semi finals are Police who ejected Wakiso Giants on an away goals advantage as well. Wakiso won the game 2-0 at Lugogo to make it 3-3 on aggregate but Police had scored more in the first leg.
Others are BUL who eliminated holders Proline and Vipers who defeated SC Villa.
