National Unity Platform (NUP) leader and former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine says the attempted assassination on Gen Katumba Wamala is an indication that lawlessness knows no class.
“The assassination attempt on Gen. Katumba Wamala which left his daughter and driver killed in cold blood is another indication that lawlessness does not only affect common citizens but also high ranking members of society,” Kyagulanyi tweeted.
Kyagulanyi via his social media handles said that the unfortunate incident should be an eye opener for all Ugandans that no one is safe.
“NO ONE IS SAFE! This is the painful reality that all Ugandans must all open our eyes to. My condolences to the family of Gen. Katumba and the family and we hope that he gets well soon,” he added.
In a separate interview, the NUP leader told NBS TV that the security forces have rather than securing Ugandans and their property, concentrated on “arresting and detaining innocent citizens” because of their political beliefs.
Noting that these are not just normal criminals but highly trained and sophiscated assassins, Mr Kyagulanyi blamed the security organs for spending most of their time witch-hunting political opponents to the current president Yoweri Museveni.
“The security organs are most promoters of insecurity in Uganda,” he said.
Gen Katumba Wamala was attacked on Tuesday morning along Kisota-Kisaasi road by unknown gunmen who eye witnesses said were traveling on motorcycles.
They riddled his car with several bullets that left his daughter Brenda Natongo and driver Haruna Kayondo dead.
The former Chief of Defense Forces however luckily escaped with gunshot wounds in both of his arms.
Earlier in the day, Police release CCTV footage which is said to show suspected assailants.
A joint security statement released also indicated that the suspected assassins had trailed Gen Katumba Wamala right from his home.
