Kambale headlines Mubiru’s largely new squad for S.Africa game

Uganda Cranes Head coach Abdallah Mubiru has revealed his 34 man provisional squad that is set to bigin preparations for an international friendly match against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on 10th June 2021.

According to a program released by Fufa on Wednesday, the team will May 30th enter a residential camp at the Cranes Paradise Hotel in Kisaasi.

They will start training on Monday 31st May 2021 at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

There is quite a number of new faces in the squad and among them, is Express FC on form forward Eric Kambale.

Kambale has previously featured for the Democratic Republic of Congo U-20 junior team but he has since acquired Ugandan citizenship and thus, he is eligible to play for Uganda.

Others are Soltilo Bright Stars goalkeeper Simon Tamale, Mbarara City’s right back Innocent Wafula, URA midfielder Ivan Sserubiri, Busoga United’s Isma Mugulusi, Soltilo Bright Stars’ Joseph Akandwanaho

Meanwhile, Mubiru has named Ittihad Alexandria’s Emmanuel Okwi as the new team captain. This follows the retirement of skipper Denis Onyango and his first assistant Hassan Wasswa.

Other notable names are goalkeeper Ismael Watenga who returns to the team after a long absence, Pyramids’ winger Abdu Lumala, SuperSport United midfielder Moses Waiswa, Allan Okello and UK based Elvis Bwomono.

There’s also a couple of players who were part of the Uganda U-20 team that finished second in the 2020 Afcon finals.
