Vipers SC have suffered a set back into their quest to retain the Uganda Premier League title after a home 2-3 defeat against Mbarara City on Tuesday.

Despite going into half time leading 2-0 courtesy of goals from the league’s top scorer Yunus Sentamu and Paul Mucureezi, the Venoms were a no show in the next 45 minutes.

The visitors pulled a goal back in the 56th minute through midfielder Solomon Okwalinga’s well struck penalty kick.

Bashir Mutanda who had replaced Zaidi Byekwaso in the first half, made it 2 all before Jude Ssemugabi scored the third for the Ankole Lions to switch St Mary’s Kitende stadium into a flight mode.

Having lost the first leg 1-0 at the Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara, the Defending Champions have thus, been beaten twice by Mbarara City this season.

The loss left coach Fred Kajoba and his boys in a disadvantaged position. They dropped to third below Express FC who won 4-0 at Busoga United and URA which takes on relegation threatened Kyetume on Wednesday.

Midfielder Godfrey Lwesibawa scored his first hat-trick at Express while on form Erick Kambale struck the other as the Red Eagles finished a league double over Busoga United FC in a 4–0 sweet victory at the FUFA technical center Njeru.

The Wasswa Bbosa coached side is currently on top of the table with 55 points from 25 games. URA Football Club which visit Kyetume for their match day 25 encounter, follow in second on 54 while Vipers lie third on 53 points.
