A call up to the national team is always accompanied with a feeling of satisfaction for any footballer and for Mathias Kigonya ,it’s no different .
The stout but agile Uganda Cranes and Azam fc goalkeeper is part of the 31 players that were Friday called up for national duty by interim coach Abdallah Mubiru.
Despite being snubbed for quite some time, he never gave up on his dream of being on the national team and he kept working hard hoping his time will one day come.
He spoke to us in an exclusive interview on how he felt about his national team summon.
“I feel great to be back on the National team but it has been a process and football is about time.
“I have been working hard and I knew one day my time will come. I hope the time is now.Am ready for the duty and competition among goalkeepers at the national team,” he added.
Kigonya last featured for Cranes at the 2016 Chan tournament in Rwanda.He deputised Ismail Watenga at the team.
His impressive performance at Zambian club Forest rangers fc earned him adeal at Tanzanian money bags Azam fc where he’s currently number one choice goalkeeper.
The Cranes are currently second in group B with 7 points and they will be playing Burkina Faso on 24th March 2021 and Malawi on 30th March 2021.
