Family organises memorial service for Zebra Ssenyange


A memorial service for slain boxer Zebra Isaac Ssenyange ‘Mando’ has been organised and will take place this Friday on 12th February, 2021 in Bwaise, Sta Daily News has learnt.

A family member who requested to remain anonymous for he is not permitted to speak with the media about the matter, said the candlelight ceremony will be held at Zebra boxing club in Bwaise.


The following day, he added, a Dua and prayer services will be held at his home in St Francis zone in Bwaise, a Kampala surbub.

This website understands that the two ceremonies have organised by Ssenyage’s widow Mercy Mukankwasi and his son Isaac Ssenyange Zebra junior.
Family members, friends and the boxing fraternity are expected to be in attendance.

The former Uganda National boxing team (Bombers) captain was shot dead in the late hours of December 29th 2020 at his home.

His son told media that his father was chased from his house before he was gunned down in a neighbouring corridor.

In his end of year address , president Museveni confessed that Ssenyage was an NRM supporter and that he was due to meet him. Mr Museveni also confirmed that it was his security men who killed Mando before promising to further investage the matter and provide justice to the deceased.

Ssenyange competed at the 2011 All Africa games in Maputo, Mozambique.

His overall amateur record was at 214 fights of which he lost just 19 times.
