Striker Yunus Sentamu back at Vipers

Vipers SC have re-signed former striker Yunus Sentamu on a two-year contract, the club has announced.

Sentamu, an old boy of St Mary’s Boarding Senior Secondary School Kitende, spent a season at Vipers and scored six goals in 13 games before moving to Congolese side AS Vita in 2014.

In 2011, the forward was St Juliana’s top-scorer in the post-primary qualifiers with 13 goals but could later be knocked out by St Mary’s SS Kitende at the quarter-finals stage.

Ssentamu’s performance earned him a place at the Lawrence Mulindwa owned school (Mulindwa is the biggest share holder at Vipers too) and during the qualifiers for the 2013 Copa Coca-Cola, he scored 24 goals.

The striker went on to emphatically score 16 goals just two behind the eventual top scorer of the final tournament.

Kitende went on to win the cup and later during the East Africa secondary school games in Lira, Sentamu scored six goals in five games to lead Kitende to another cup

Despite Uganda’s poor show in the 2014 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa, Sentamu looked a little exceptional as he managed three goals at the competition. His goals, including a brace against Burkina Faso and a consolation strike against Morocco couldn’t help the Cranes move past group stages but made the scouting agents sit up and take notice.

After putting pen to paper, the striker told club media, “Everyone knows the special relationship l have with this club and it has always felt like home to me. My desire to win is still the same and l look forward to the opportunity to help the team achieve. I am excited for this next chapter of my career.”

For his part, his new coach Fred Kajoba who has been close to him severally especially during National Team engagements, praised the personality of the recent catch.
“l know Sentamu’s personality very well and l know he will add alot of value and fire power upfront.”

He has been handed shirt number 12 previously worn by Rahmat Ssenfuka and Rashid Toha (who will wear number 35).
