A case of phone theft SD:REF 29/7/1/2021 has been filed at Salama Road police station against Singer and NRM mobiliser Ronald Mayinja.
Mayinja is accused of stealing a mobile phone from Yudaya Nangozi a journalist working with The Observer News Paper.
“After a 2 hour interview at his home in Munyonyo, musician Ronald Mayinja has made off with our reporter Yudaya Nangozi’s mobile phone,” The Observer said Thursday in a statement.
According to the news paper, Mayinja had demanded that the audio which had been recorded by the journalist be deleted, pleading that it land him in trouble with the state.
When Miss Yudaya Nangozi declined to his demands, the paper said “He [Mayinja] took off and temporarily locked our reporter in his home, falsely claiming she’d trespassed into his home – never mind that he voluntarily agreed to the interview, directed our reporter into the home, sat and talked for 2 hours and 30 minutes.”
It’s reported that the controversial musician “later changed his accusations, again falsely, claiming our reporter had taken photos of his naked children.”
According to the news paper, Mayinja said he would buy the reporter a new mobile phone because he had permanently destroyed the old one together with its SD card and SIM card.
However, The Observer said they demand that Mayinja return the phone as soon as possible.
It’s said that Mayinja has been summoned to make a statement tomorrow (Friday) at 10am.
Mayinja is no stranger to controversy. A former known critic to the NRM government, the singer has for the recent past made news for joining opposition National Unity Platform, leaving, returning and then leaving to join the ruling NRM.
He is currently working with the party as one of the artists canvassing votes for president Museveni and party flag bearers competing for different positions in the 2021 elections.
