Jjuuko released without charge

Former International boxer Justin Jjuuko(The Ugandan Destroyer) has been released by the army without charge according to his political party, the FDC.

Former International boxer Justin Jjuuko(The Ugandan Destroyer) has been released by the army without charge according to his political party, the FDC.

The WBC champion was December 12,2020 arrested alongside another FDC mobilizer Mr Garypo Mayanja by Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence on offences of treachery contrary to Section 129(C) of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) Act and illegal possession of firearms contrary to Section 3(1) and (2) (a) of the Firearms Act.

Mr Juuko was due to be arraigned in the General Court martial but his lawyer, Mr Justinian Kateera told the Daily Monitor that Court had exercised its discretion to withdraw the charges pending further investigation.

“Justin Juuko is finally free without charge. Thanks everyone for putting pressure on the regime,” the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) tweeted Thursday evening.

Earlier on Thursday, Mr Twinomugisha Mugisha, a representative from the attorney general’s office told Justice Musa Sekana of the high court civil division in Kampala the boxer cum political mobilizer was being detained at the Kitalya government prison.

Justice Sekana had however given Juuko’s relatives up to January 8th 2021 to ascertain if indeed Juuko was in Kitalya as claimed by the state.
