Boxer Justin Jjuuko detained at Kitalya, says government

Justin Jjuuko alias The Ugandan Destroyer, a Ugandan retired boxer and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party mobilizer is being detained at Kitalya prison, the government has said.

While appearing before Justice Musa Sekana of the high court civil division in Kampala on Thursday, the attorney general representative Twinomugisha Mugisha said Juuko was arrested in Masaka by security operatives and is currently detained on charges of being in possession of firearms.

Justice Sekana has however given Juuko’s relatives up to January 8th 2021 to ascertain if indeed Juuko is in Kitalya as claimed by the state.

The former World Boxing Champion went missing on December, 2020 and since then, his family, fans and other citizens have been demanding for his release but the government of Uganda had remained tight lipped until when they went to court.

“Justin Juuko, (Destroyer) a former International star was arrested with an FDC colleague Garlypo Mayanja on 12th Dec from Kyanzanga town. FDC established that they were held by CMI at SIU Kireka. After applying for their production in court, Mayanja was released Tuesday,” former Presidential Aspirant and FDC president Kizza Besigye said recently.

The boxing and sports fraternity in general are still mourning the gruesome murder of another boxer Zebra Ssenyange (Mando) who was shot dead by gun men at his home on Wednesday morning.

There are also other reports suggesting that Robert Mukasa aka Soldier, also a boxer and friend to Zebra Ssenyange was found dead too a few hours after the former had been killed.
