AFCON U17 CECAFA Qualifiers: Uganda are Champions again

Both Uganda and Tanzania will represent the Cecafa region in the U17 CAF finals that will be held in Morocco in July next year.

The Uganda Under 17 National Team, the Cubs have beaten Tanzania 3-1 to retain the Cecafa Championship. The final was played at the Umuganda Stadium, Rubavu in Rwanda on Tuesday evening.

Irinimbabazi Ivan scored the opening goal for Uganda in the 62nd minute. This followed an action packed first half that had ended 0-0.

Eighteen minutes later, Mutyaba Travis doubled the Cubs’ lead while Captain Juma Ibrahim converted a penalty in the 90th minute to seal victory for Uganda.

However, two minutes earlier, the Tanzanians had had a glimpse of hope when they pulled one back courtesy of an own goal by a Ugandan defender Mulema Vincent.

Both Uganda and Tanzania will represent the Cecafa region in the U17 CAF finals that will be held in Morocco in July next year.

Ethiopia took the third spot after beating Djibouti 5-2 in the first game of the day.
