Wakiso Giants vs. Vipers – 3PM

The Venue: Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, Wakisha

The StarTimes Uganda Premier League Champions Vipers start off their title defence  against Wakiso Giants away at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakisha on Saturday (today).

The  fixture marks  the beginning of a quest for a return to CAF competitions by coach Fred Kajoba’s side having been ejected out of this season’s Champions league by Al Hilal of Sudan.

The fact that their opponents have drawn all of their first two matches in the season acts as a morale booster for the Venoms and could effectively provide them with chance to pounce without fear as they chase the early log leaders and title rivals. KCCA FC and UPDF FC.

But Douglas Bamweyana, the Giants coach is well aware of the task ahead. “We are very aware that we are playing the defending champions, a good side but we believe in ourselves and at home, we don’t have any doubts that we can get the result we want which is a win tomorrow although it’s going to be a big fight but one we believe we can come out victorious.

Team News:

Vipers will be without Umar Kyebatala who ruled out with a knee injury and Allan Kayiwa who is yet to recover from fever.

However, Rashid Toha and Shaban Muhammed are expected to make their full league debuts for the visitors following successful recovery from knee surgeries.

The Champions also welcome back the Uganda U20 star Bobos Byaruhanga who has recovered from a minor knock.

The Purple Sharks on the other hand have Pius Kaggwa ready to make his debut for the club after coach Douglas Bamweyana confirmed he is fit for the game.

The winger who signed from Police has missed the previous two games including one against his former team.

Bamweyana  also told club media that forward Viane Ssekajugo is also available for selection following a long term injury that has kept him out since March.

The winger cum forward was hurt in the 2-1 win over Maroons in February.

“We are very happy to welcome back Pius Kaggwa and Viane Ssekajugo coming into this very important fixture,” he said.

“Our current position now renders this a must win encounter after failing to win any of our last two games,” the coach said.

Last season’s corresponding fixture ended in a barren draw.
