The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) shall do everything within its powers to see the national under 20 team, the Hippos succeed at the Mauritania 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
Fufa president Moses Magogo told the team that beat hosts and holders Tanzania 4-1 to win the Cecafa U20 trophy recently at a breakfast meeting held atJevine Hotel- Rubaga on Friday morning that the Federation is going to embark on preparations and Programmes for the Final Tournament.
“We thank the Almighty for the gift of talents in the team that have enabled us to qualify for the first time to play in the AFCON U20 Finals. We need to develop you as complete footballers. Players should be spiritually strong and fit,” he said.
Magogo added, “I am proud of having watched the game. I liked the hunger and desire to win shown by the players in every game. It was a strong fight and we are proud of the display from the players.”
Having qualified, Magogo said the emphasis has now shifted to preparing the team to win the AFCON U20 finals. “We want to prepare you as great players by winning at the continent and qualifying for the world cup.” Like many football analysts, Magogo attributed the Hippos’ success to the Fufa Juniors League.
“Five years ago we started the Juniors League and most of these players are products from the project. It is not by coincidence that we are the CECAFA Champions for U15, U17 and U20,” he said.
As a reward for the victory, the Fufa president confirmed a package of Four Million Uganda Shillings (UGX 4,000,000) to each member of the team.
He said the players and officials will also get camp allowances for the period they were away from home.
Magogo used the same occasion to urge to keep away from being victims of COVID-19 because it is another form of injury to players.
