The Confederation of African Volleyball Board will have a new president until 2024.
This is after Moroccan Hajij Bouchra has been elected as the 5th President of CAVB during a virtual Congress held from 24th-26th October 2020.
Dr. Hajij Bouchra, who is also president of the Royal Moroccan Volleyball Federation, has become the first female to preside over the continental body since its inception in 1972. She is also the FIVB vice president of the Executive Committee and CAVB member of the Executive Committee and the board of directors.
Hajij Bouchra polled 42 (77.78%) votes against incumbent Dr Amr Elwani who garnered just 12 Votes (22.22%).
Bouchra, a former Moroccan international (1984 – 2002), will now be at the helm of CAVB until 2024. And she’s mandated to transform Beach Volleyball and Volleyball (Indoor) in Africa before the next Elective Congress.
In 2016, Bouchra Hajij made history as the first ever African woman to be elected as FIVB Board of Administration member. She gained 147 votes at the Minority Gender FIVB Board elections in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Bouchra has Masters in Communication and Marketing (ISCAE), Bachelor’s degree in experimental sciences and Diploma in Education from Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The online voting exercise was conducted under the supervision of by experts from FIVB led by Fabio Azevedo in association with the CAVB secretariat in Cairo.
Bouchra’s immediate assignment will be to revise the 2019/2020 CAVB Financial reports and Budgets that were rejected by the 2020 Congress.
Dr Elwani 74, has served volleyball in Africa for 24-years including 19-years as president of the Confederation and FIVB Executive vice-president.
He has now joined the prestigious list of former CAVB presidents that has Chardly Zouiten (Tunisia); Nacef Salim (Egypt) and Louhry Gui Gui (Cote D’Ivoire)
