The Uganda Cranes will kickoff their 5th campaign of the Chan finals against seasoned rivals, Amavubi Stars of Rwanda on January 18, 2021, STADAILYNEWS has learnt.
In the new dates and fixtures for the sixth edition of the CHAN 2021 released by CAF, hosts Cameroon play Zimbabwe on the opening day of the tournament on the 16th January 2021.
The tournament was meant to take place in April 2020, but due to Covid-19 pandemic the championship was pushed to January 2021.
Thus, the Executive Committee of CAF decided that the tournament be held next year from January 16 to February 7.
Despite Uganda taking part in all but one of the last five editions, the country is yet to get out of the group stages.
The Cranes are in group C alongside neighbours Rwanda, cup holders Morocco and Togo.
According to the fixtures, Uganda will play all her group games at Stade de Reunfication.
The quarter final games will take place on January 30 and 31 while the semi finals will be played on the 03rd of February. The tournament is scheduled to end on the 7th February 2021.
The tournament will be hosted in four stadia ( stade Ahmadou Ahidjo, Stade Japoma, stade de la Reunification, Stadium Limbe) from three cities ( Yaounde, Douala, Limbe)
The Chan is a tournament for African National teams composed of players plying trade in their respective local leagues.
A – Cameroon (hosts), Mali, Burkina Faso and Zimbabwe (based in Yaounde)
B – Libya, DR Congo, Congo and Niger (based in Douala)
C – Morocco, Rwanda, Uganda and Togo (based in Douala)
D – Zambia, Guinea, Namibia and Tanzania. (based in Limbe)
