The 2020/21 StarTimes Uganda Premier League will not kick off until November, 2020, FUFA has revealed.
The kick off for the new campaign had been tentatively scheduled for October 17, 2020.
However, this, the Fufa Vice President Administration, Justus Mugisha said won’t be possible.
Mr. Mugisha was speaking at the 7th Annual General Meeting of the Fufa Super League Limited (FSLL) at Ridar Hotel, Seeta-Mukono.
A week ago, President Museveni gave a green light for the re- start of sporting activities in the country but with stringent measures including COVID19 tests on players 72 hours before matches and testing twice in a fortnight. And Mr. Mugisha said they would engage government on help.
“Because of Covid-19, our activities were severely affected including the competitions. We are happy that President Yoweri Museveni Kaguta has blessed the partial return of sports. As FUFA, we shall continue engaging Government on the safe return including free testing if need be” Mugisha said.
Consequently, the Fufa Vice President confirmed that player registration that had ended on September 21 had also been extended by a month.
Fufa has also confirmed the promotional play offs to determine the third team to join the top-flight league will be held at the Fufa Technical Centre, Njeru. But the Federation said the exact date for the fixtures would be revealed later.
Kataka, Kitara, Kiboga Young and Ndejje University will be battling to join UPDF and MYDA as the newcomers ahead of the campaign.
