The Uganda Beach Soccer Association (UBSA) has Saturday 26, 2020 held its 8th Ordinary Annual General Assembly.

The event that took place at Pope Paul Memorial Hotel, Lubaga in Kampala, was also used by UBSA to commemorate ten years of affiliation to FUFA.

The Association was launched in 2008 but only became a member of the Federation of Ugandan Football Association (FUFA) two years later.

In addition to laying on table a detailed financial report that included events and activities conducted in the year 2019/2020, the UBSA executive presented to the delegates a budget for coming season.

The new budget passed by the assembly is Uganda shillings eight hundred and seventy one millions and eight hundred thousand (871,800,000).

Addressing the assembly, the Association Chairman Mr. Deo Mutabazi couldn’t overlook the challenges faced by UBSA in the last ten years but remained optimistic that the game will climb higher ladders.

“If you look at how we started, there is definitely a reason to be proud. There were challenges at the beginning but the success attained over the ten years is a basis for us to be proud.”
“From unrecognised tournaments, we set up competitive leagues for both men and women, set up a national team and spread the game not only in Uganda but even with our neighbours in the region.” Mutabazi said.

He however decried the setback caused by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic which led to a halt on a number of activities planned for the year 2020.

“We have indeed been hit hard with the pandemic. Majority of our activities were forced to be cancelled but with the restart of sports activities, we are optimistic that we shall resume soon,” Mutabazi said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Deo Mutabazi used the same occasion to inform the delegates about the UBSA’s endorsement and affiliation to the African Beach Soccer Union (ABSU).
“We are affiliated to the newly formed African Beach Soccer Union (ABSU) and strongly supports its formation. At the Union, a continental body, I was elected as the Union’s First Vice-President, while Mr. Ali Mwebe appointed the Vice-Chairperson of the Technical Development Committee and Mr. Nsereko H Kawuma Afriqana appointed as Media Officer at the secretariat.

FUFA Executive Committee member  Mr. Ahmid Juma, who was the guest of honour lauded UBSA for taking game forward and assured the delegates about FUFA’s commitment towards the growth of beach soccer in the country.

Juma was later recognised with an award for his outstanding contribution towards beach soccer. Also, Muhamood ‘Blatter’ Kalema FUFA Finance officer was recognized with an award of excellence.
