A grade one magistrate has remanded Uganda’s State Minister for Labour, Mr Mwesigwa Rukutana to Kakiika Prison in Mbarara District where he will stay until tomorrow September 8, 2020. It’s however expected that the minister will be able to secure a bail when he appears before a chief magistrate on his return to the same court.
Mr Rukutana who has previously served as deputy attorney general, was charged with seven offences including attempted murder, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, threatening violence and malicious damage, among others.

The minister and his three escorts were arrested on Saturday following an incident in Ruhama, Ntungamo district in which one person was allegedly short at and seriously got injured as well as damaging a motor vehicle.
After losing to Naome Kabasharira in the NRM primaries, Rukutana turned chaotic and a video that has become viral on social media, shows him grabbing a gun from one of his bodyguards.
During the scuffle, it is alleged that he shot and injured one person who was rushed to hospital in critical condition whereas one vehicle was also destroyed.
His boss and NRM national chairman President Museveni on Monday morning vowed to bring to book whoever participated in the chaos that overshadowed the party parliamentary primaries and Rukutana’s name was at the forefront.
