CAF: We’re shocked by mysterious disappearence of AFCON trophy


Confederation of African Football ( CAF), the body that runs football in Africa says it is shocked by the mystery ways under which the original Afcon trophy went missing. CAF however said in a tweet that it’s ready to offer any support to the Egyptian Football Association (EFA)
“CAF has learnt with shock reports of missing AFCON trophies from the Egyptian Football Association secretariat. Our doors are open and the EFA can count on our support in the search for the priceless memorabilia,” CAF tweeted earlier on Sunday.

On September 4, 2020, Former EFA vice-president Ahmed Shobier revealed how the most prestigious title in African football had mysteriously disappeared. And there after, news its disappearence started spreading like wild fire on social media and various news outlets.


The Egyptian national team achieved unprecedentary won the trophy three times consecutively in 2006, 2008 and 2010 and thus got a rare opportunity to claim the floating trophy permanently.

The disappearance of the silverware that was achieved under the guidance of legendary coach Hassan Shehata a decade ago, has disgustedly sounded obscene to many a football fans though.

“The EFA started looking for some trophies as they aim to put them in a notable museum inside the EFA,” Shobier said.

“However, the EFA was surprised to find that the AFCON trophy was lost and decided to open an investigation.

“They were informed by an employee inside the association that it was held by former Egypt captain Ahmed Hassan who refuted this claim. Nobody knows where is the trophy at the time being.” He added.
