Covid-19: Uganda’s death toll rises to 30

Uganda’s Ministry of Health has confirmed a Ugandan male 65, and a resident of Mbale has died of Covid-19. The announcement means the country has now recorded 30 COVID-19 deaths.

It has also been confirmed that 81 new people tested positive for the disease on August 29. Hence, cumulatively the number of Ugandans found with Covid-19 have reached 2,928.


The Ministry revealed that number of contacts and alerts were 67 out of which Kampala had 32. Other areas were Kiryandongo which had 9, Kitgum 7, Wakiso 4, Mukono 4, Iganga 3, Jinja 2, Gulu 2. Mbale, Oyam , Bundibugyo and Namisindwa all had one positive case each.

Among those found positive, were 12 health workers distributed among Lira with 4, Kampala 3, Moroto 3, Jinja 1 and Tororo 1.

To sum up the 81, the Ministry said two (2) truck drivers who arrived via Malaba tested positive for the disease as well.

Meanwhile, eleven (11) foreign truck drivers were found positive for COVID-19 at the border points of entry and their entry into the country was not permitted, the Ministry said.
